Universal Health Care Coverage
Freedom to make choices...
As
Americans, we value freedom...but many Americans live in fear, not freedom.
Freedom means being able to make choices. Choices that will determine
how we live, where we live and what we do with our lives. Many Americans
cannot make these basic choices. As long as our health care system is
tied to our employer, we are like servants tied to a master. We cannot
make a career decision without considering the impact on our health care,
or on the health care of the members of our family. We cannot weather
an illness or an accident without wondering how it will affect our future.
Who
among us can guarantee that we will never have the need of a health care
provider? Who among us can guarantee that we will never need an operation,
or that we will never face a critical illness? Who among the insured can
guarantee that they will never reach the policy limit of what the cost
may be for care they may someday need, and then be dropped, or be in need
of a medication that is not covered. Who among the insured can guarantee
that they, or part of their family, will never be dropped from a policy
due to a life event. All it takes for a child to loose insurance coverage
is to have a birthday, or for a spouse to have an extended illness that
incapacitates them from work, or for a person to change employers or spouses
or occupations. As it is today, without universal health care...we all
live in fear.
Who
are the unisured? They can be your neighbors, friends, co-workers, children,
parents...and also, it can be you.
Why
are people uninsured? There are many reasons...but the intentional choice
to be uninsured is rarely one of them. We would like to learn of your
story. It is time now to unite together so that everyone can have quality
heathcare.
